OkCupid - Prom at 31?

So I've received my fair share of strange messages on the dating apps so far as I'm sure most all of you are away by now. The other day I received a strange request though involving prom. Mind you, I've been out of high school and attended college so to hear about prom was a bit confusing. I didn't even go to the prom when I was in high school so why would I not want to go to prom when I'm not? It gets better though because the guy who asked me is not even high school age and is instead 31. Think I'm joking? I wish I was.

Ok, I am honestly concerned about whether or not this guy thought he was being funny. Why would he ask if I would go to prom and then tack on "lol". Is prom funny? Is it a laughing matter? As I mentioned before I never attended prom so I wouldn't know. From what I have been told by friends it can either be fun or be a bore but they never mentioned it being funny. I can imagine it would be funny if we went to one of the comedy shows on the strip. Now that would actually make some sense but he never mentioned such a thing.

I didn't immediately reply because I was so confused at first so then he messaged again saying to get dolled up like a princess because it's a royal ball. That only served to confuse me eve more. Is there royalty here in Las Vegas that I don't know about? Have I been living a lie? Or he is going to fly us both off to England so we can go to a royal ball with the Queen of England? Now that would be something I could get easily get behind because I do miss England very much and how could I deny a free flight? However I highly doubt this guy has such connections and I can't recall many royal balls even happening although I've probably been living under a rock when it comes to knowing about any sort of royal get togethers.

On top of that he added "lol" to the end of his sentence once more. What does this mean? What is so funny? A royal ball certainly shouldn't be funny unless there is a different royal ball that I'm completely unaware of that is all about humor. Either way I just don't understand it. Why is this 31 year old man going around asking people to prom and then changing it to a royal ball? Does this sort of question actually get responses? Can anyone take him seriously at his age with a question about prom? Let me know what you think in the comments below because I'm just confused.
